You can use imitation crab if you prefer, but there’s nothing quite like the real thing. This would be awesome with tuna, planning on trying that next!! Seriously, if you love sushi and spicy foods, you will love these!! I had two as a main meal and I was stuffed! Let me know if you try them!

How To Make Ahead:

You can make the salad ahead and refrigerate. Cut the avocado just before serving.

  1. I could eat this every day! I used tuna and skipped the cucumbers and chives because I didn’t have them on hand…still delicious! I also used everything bagel spice in the place of furikake. Will be a go-to lunch. Thanks, Gina!

    1. She is removing the avocado meat from the skin, but then fills the avocado meat with the crab and uses it as a “bowl” to eat

  2. I have had this recipe saved for probably at least two years. It always pops up and I’ve never made it! I’m a huge sushi fan, especially california rolls.

I finally made this yesterday ! So delicious!! I used imitation crab meat, and crushed croutons on top ! (I just used what I had on hand, also missing the soy sauce, chives and furikake)
I’m sure this would be good with any canned salmon or tuna as well! I’ll be making it again today since I have extra ingredients and most definitely many times in the future !
    Yummmmyyyy!!

  3. This is absolutely delish! I could eat my weight in it. Right amount of spice. Sushi roll without the rice. I should have made double the recipe because I have to share. I have never not made one of your recipes that is not delicious. My husband thinks I am a great cook.

I made this today for my BF and I for lunch and it is ridiculously delicious. We got some yuzu flavored furikake to use and subbed scallions for chives. Thanks for the great recipe!

  5. This is so incredibly delicious!! All the flavor from a spicy sushi roll without the rice! I will definitely make this again. So easy and so tasty! Thank you!

  6. So Freaking DELICIOUS! Made these today for a light summer lunch, and will definitely make this again. We love sushi, and my husband thought these were a great light option! Thanks for always coming through with deliciousness!

  7. I made this for lunch today using tuna. Didn’t have any cucumber or chives so just added some green onion finely chopped. Also only used 1 tsp sriracha which gave just the right bite for me. Definitely will make this again. Yummy.

  8. I used claw meat, and it resulted in a yucky product. Just wanted to share to make sure future readers don’t make the same mistake. With salty ingredients as it is, plus the salty strong flavor of the claw meat, it was inedible. My sriracha made the saltiness more potent. Spring for the lump crab meat, or maybe try the canned meat (my store didn’t have it). The recipe seems great, so I don’t want to veer anyone away!

The taste of crab meat is verry delicat, it’s too much sriracha you kill the taste of the crab.

    1. Ok, so we actually chopped up the avocado, mixed them in the bowl with everything else, and turned it into a party dip. Probably not as healthy since we ate it with our favorite crackers, but it was still amazing!!!
So simple, easy, and quick to make!!!

Has anyone substituted wasabi for the siracha? Not a fan of the latter. Wasabi would definitely make it like a real Cali Roll.

I bet this would be really great stuffed into a tomato. Gonna give it a try as written and also with tomato.

  12. Yummy! Sad that lump crab meat (canned) is so expensive or I’d eat this everyday! I also used (as another person did) the everything seasoning from Trader Joe’s.

Absolutely delicious! Substituted the crab with both canned tuna and salmon, and the results are addictive for both lunches and dinners! Have shared the recipe with many family and friends who are fans of Japanese food! Thanks, Gina, for yet again another recipe low on calories but HUGE on flavour!!

  14. Seriously good! I used lump crab meat out of a can, and put in regular helmans. I loved the flavor. I would also like to make this and put on cucumber boats!

Have you tried making a tempera version of these? I was thinking of maybe making a coconut flour tempura batter and frying these up!

  16. This was delicious.  My market didn’t have furikake so I used Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Sesame seasoning. I will definitely make this again.

  17. I made this last night for the first time. I took the advice and used jumbo lump crab rather than the immitation stuff. I figured the dish would be good but OMG it was better than I ever expected. I loved it and have shared the recipe with a few friends!

  18. Just made this today and it was DELICIOUS! I wish I could post a photo. This will definitely be a regular dish. I purchased the crab meat from Costco in the can (refrigerated) and bought the furikake at the Japanese market. Make sure to check the label. Some has a warning about lead the one I bought from the Japanese market from Japan did not have this warning.

  19. Made this last night for dinner and it was fast and delicious! I I doubled the crab mixarture and ate it for lunch the next day and it was still amazing. Next time I will add fresh pickled ginger on top. Love all your recipes!!

Just made these and they were awesome! I added a little jalapeno and extra green onions. Excellent!

  21. This was a quick delicious treat! It tasted like a California roll without the rice . I will definitely make it again and again.  Your recipes are very helpful and healthy.

  22. This is not Whole30 approved. It contains Siracha and the first ingredient in Siracha is sugar. Please update your recipes to be Whole30 compliant.

  23. This recipe was really great! But, it’s not Whole30 approved. Sriracha contains sugar AND sulfites.

  24. Looks amazing! Would love to try, but both myself & my hubby can’t eat spicy foods due to stomach problems. Can you suggest something else to use instead of the sriracha sauce?

  25. I made this tonight and it was so quick n easy and so delicious! Thank you so much for sharing all of your fantastic recipes! As someone who has subscribed to WW, I appreciate the fact that you are always updating the points on your recipes too. And regardless of the points, your recipes are just plain healthy and delicious!

I LOVE  love all your recipes and my family doesn’t as well. Going to make this tonight as an app. If I can make ahead? Would it sit well in fridge or is this better served immediately ?

    1. I used French peppers spice you can purchase it on Amazon for heat.
      https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07SV2WKQV/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_track_package_o1_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  27. Made it today. Delicious but I probably made it more calories. Had to have some Panko and Ell sauce.

  28. Such a yummy lunch!  I just made this for my teenage daughters and me and we LOVED it!  They said it tastes like going out to real sushi.

  29. Love all of your recipes! Do you have a lump crab meat brand you recommend? I cook king crab often, but have never used lump crab meat in a recipe. Thanks!

  30. Didn’t have avocado (mine went bad before I used it, ugh) so I put the crab mixture on too of a salad and it was.still very tasty and satisfying! I can’t wait to try it with avocado.

    1. Oh yeah, and I used cayenne pepper instead of sriracha because apparently my sriracha was also bad ha ha.

  31. Really good, but REALLY expensive. A 6 oz. bag of lump crab is $13.99, so groceries for 2 people cost $43! We could have gone out for steaks!!!

  32. Although I do not care for avocado, I made this recipe. The family loves avocado and so no issues there! My only concern was that the furikake that I bought states that it contains lead blah blah blah. So I substituted sesame seeds (like your recipe says).

Since I don’t like avocado I put my crab mixture on top of slices of cucumbers – Very Delish! Thank you!!!

  33. I am wondering how Hellman’s mayonaise is Whole 30 It is made with canola oil which soybeans are used to make canola oil. Soy beans are not allowed for Whole30. You should consider using mayonnaise made with avocado oil. they are hard to find sometimes but are available. Or you can always make your own mayonnaise

    1. There is sugar in srirachia. So it isn’t paleo. For a good mayo substitute I like Veganaise. Soy free as well.

  34. This was wonderful.  I am doing Whole 30 and used Primal Paleo Chipotle Lime mayo, a drizzle of franks hot sauce instead of sriracha (to avoid sugar) and coco aminos.   Super quick and easy lunch. Thanks for sharing

  35. This was SUPER yummy. I tried it with canned salmon and it was delicious. Very filling and satsitfied my sushi craving.

  36. Hey Gina,
Thanks for this. I used basic canned tuna and it turned out great.
The perfect snack i can use in my quest to get healthy. Thanks again, I’m looking forward to more great ideas like this one.

  37. My daughter and I loved this! We sprinkled some whole wheat Panko crumbs on top-perfection! Thank you!

  38. Delicious!  I chopped up the avocado in it as opposed to serving it within. Cured my sushi craving!!

  39. Made this for lunch today and it did not disappoint! Hardest part was waiting for my avocado to get the the perfect ripeness 🙂

  40. Yummy recipe! Just had it for lunch. But, I can’t get it to be 5SP. I calculate it at 7SP. What am I missing?

  41. This was DELICIOUS!!  I used shrimp since fresh crab is hard for me to get. My husband loved it too. This will definitely be on our regular rotation. I also recommended this to several friends…YUM!  I doubled the recipe to have leftover stuffing for lunch the next day. It’s super easy to throw an avocado in my lunch bag and cut it at work. Thank you Gina!

  42. I made these today for lunch and they were amazing! Used canned tuna since I had it on hand and crab is so expensive, but it didn’t matter – delicious!

  43. a huge fan of your website! do you use fresh crabmeat or canned? If canned is there a brand that would taste good?

  44. I made these last week. They were amazing!! Tastes just like spicy crab sushi without the rice. I’ll definitely be making this a lot!

  45. My husband and I made this for Sunday lunch this past weekend and WOW! It exceeded our expectations by far. We purchased a whole crab and cleaned/picked it ourselves – I get why it’s so expensive to buy the meat already picked from the shell! Thanks so much for a super fun, delicious, happy and healthy meal, once again!

I used a paleo mayo and tamari for drizzling- it was delicious!!! Thanks for another great (and healthy) recipe!

  47. Getting ingredients for this right now. Why cucumber instead of, say, celery for crunch? I might use both but curious if you had a reason for one over the other.

    1. Hi Deborah! I think that’s because cucumber is often used is sushi, and those are the flavors she’s trying to create here.

  48. Attention: this is ridiculously awesome! I even hollowed out the avocado a little to get the crab to stuff nicer. I wish I could scream right now how good this is but I’m at the office and that just wouldn’t sit well with my co-workers!

  49. Just made this-I happened to have all the ingedients in the house(had imitation crabmeat). It was great! Next time I will try it w/lump crabmeat. Thanks for all the great recipes!

    1. No, you are using the avocado as the “bowl”, this is what you are stuffing. You can either scoop the avocado out (as a whole section), or remove the pit and peel. 🙂

  50. Gina, is the avocado that you remove from the shell then used for something else? Or is it cut up in the crab mixture? Either way it looks wonderful!

    1. No, scoop it out as a whole section, this is what you will be stuffing. Or you can peel the avocado.

      1. Thanks! Looking at the picture I can see it is not the peel but the meat itself! Even better getting all that great avocado to eat!

      1. The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, now you know why.

      2. Maybe this has changed in the last year, but not all fruits and vegetables don’t count. Avocados are not on the zero point food list and add points. I put all the ingredients in to the recipe builder exactly the way you have them listed and it came up with 6 points per serving. Still a great recipe though!

    1. I had that question, too. Avocado’s (whole) are 11 points. Light mayo is about 2 points and the Sriracha is 1 point. I have no idea how many points the crab would be, but even if it were 0, one half would not 5 points.

      1. If you weigh your avocados, you get far more bang for your buck! She mentions in the recipe that this is about 4oz of avocado once seed & peel is removed. 4oz of avocado is only 6sp. I always weigh my avocado… I never base it on small, medium, etc.

No you stuff the avocado (cut avocado in half; remove the pit and remove the skin then you stuff it with crab meat)

        Yvonne Schmitt

I basicalay have the same question. Do you stuff the avocado with the avocado part still in there? Or do you dice the avocado up and put it in the salad? I’m just thinking if the avocado is still in the shell that doesn’t leave much room for stuffing. But maybe that’s the intent.

This is the first time I’ve replied to one of your recipe posts. But I have made a lot of your stuff I own your two books and I love it. Thank you and keep up the good work.

  51. Hi Gina! For this to be Whole 30, the sriracha would have to be substituted since it contains sugar.  Looks yummy!

  52. Would you do everything the same if you used tuna? Just replace with 4oz tuna? Looks delicious! Thanks!

    1. Lol! As I read this recipe I thought to myself I have tuna and avocado but no crab. I wonder… Thanks for posting your question, I am going to try it for lunch today!
